The buyer typically wants to bypass the 12–24 month grind required to build the same status organically. The seller is often an agency that has moved off-platform to direct clients.

Upwork explicitly prohibits account transfers in its Terms of Service and runs periodic identity verification that can catch ownership changes. Escrow protects both sides against counterparty fraud, but cannot protect against Upwork's own detection — this must be disclosed in the deal description.

What is actually being sold#
